To make vanilla sauce: Mix together sugar, flour and salt. In a saucepan over medium-high heat scald your milk. Turn heat down a little and add in dry ingredients whisking until combined. Keep whisking until thickened. Remove from heat and stir in butter and vanilla. Serve over steamed pudding.
