Smoked Salmon on Pumpernickel Rye
This simple smoked salmon bite layers pumpernickel rye with cream cheese, capers, and dill. It works equally well as an appetizer or light lunch.

- Pumpernickel rye bread, sliced
- smoked salmon
- cream cheese
- Capers, drained
- fresh dill, roughly chopped
- lemon zest or juice
- Red onion, sliced thin
- black pepper
Cut your bread into smaller pieces. It's a firm bread so it will hold up well.
Spread cream cheese on each slice.
Top with smoked salmon.
Sprinkle with chopped capers, dill, add lemon zest or juice if using, and finish with black pepper.
Serve immediately.
