I’ve tried making pie crusts before and admittedly pie dough is one of very few things I am challenged with. Therefore I don’t try to make pies very often. I have discovered however, thanks to a friend, a pie dough recipe that works. I’ve also googled this pie dough recipe and it is out there, everywhere. This basic pie dough recipe is made with 7 up and it really works. Four ingredients is all you need.
Here is the pumpkin pie recipe I use every year (passed down). Double all ingredients to make 2 delicious pies.
Ingredients
- 3 eggs
- 2 cups pumpkin puree
- 1 cup brown sugar packed
- 1 1/2 tsp cinnamon
- 1/2 tsp nutmeg
- 1/2 tsp ginger
- 1/2 tsp salt
- 1/2 tsp cloves
- 1 cup evaporated milk
- 1 9 inch deep dish pie shell uncooked
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 350.
- In medium bowl beat eggs. Add pumpkin, brown sugar, cinnamon, nutmeg, ginger, salt, cloves and evaporated milk. Whisk until combined. Pour into prepared pie shell. Bake for 45-50 minutes (depending on your oven) or until toothpick comes out clean.
- Serve with a dollop of whipped cream or vanilla ice cream.

Wanda…if I may share the easiest pie crust recipe that has not failed me yet: 5 1/2 cups flour, 1 tsp salt, 1 lb Tenderflake lard, 1 can cold 7-up (not diet). Mix flour and salt, cut in lard, stir in 7-up, divide into 5 equal portions, chill 30 minutes…roll out into 5 pie crusts!
